Chestnut Oak’s Rio’s Premier, affectionately known as “Prima,” is a rare F1 Drum Horse mare whose story is every bit as distinctive as her appearance. Standing a certified 15.3 hands, Prima is a solid silver dapple buckskin carrying cream, silver, W20, and one copy of recessive red. She is an equal blend of 50% Gypsy Horse and 50% Shire, sired by the silver buckskin Gypsy Vanner GDR Sir Royal Rio Grande and out of the bay Shire mare Steege’s Beth.

Prima is especially significant because she is one of only two Drum Horses produced by her sire. Even more remarkably, those two horses were born at the same farm and raised side by side from the beginning. Their lifelong bond gives Prima a history that cannot be captured by pedigree alone. She is part of an exceptionally rare story shared by only one other Drum Horse.

Prima came to Crown Cavalo through an extraordinary act of trust. Her former owner placed this special mare in our care with the belief that we would appreciate her past, protect her future, and recognize the qualities that make her so unique. Once we experienced Prima’s sweet and gentle disposition, we simply could not refuse the opportunity to welcome her into our family.
