PS Faelyn Primrose

PS Faelyn Primrose, affectionately known as “Prim,” is a rare Smoky Black Tobiano F1 Drum Horse mare whose influence can be seen throughout the Crown Cavalo breeding program.

Standing an impressive 16.2 hands, Prim combines the beauty and presence of the Gypsy Horse with the height, substance, and athleticism of the Shire. She is sired by T.H. Ailbhe and out of the grey Shire mare Wild Rose Ella, giving her an equal heritage of 50% Gypsy and 50% Shire.

Prim’s color is as distinctive as her pedigree. Although she appears black, she carries a hidden cream gene, making her genetically Smoky Black. She is also homozygous for Extension, meaning every foal inherits a black pigment gene from her. Combined with her tobiano pattern, these genetics allow Prim to contribute exciting and highly desirable color possibilities to carefully selected pairings.

Yet Prim’s importance to Crown Cavalo extends far beyond her appearance or genetics. She is the mare who helped begin our breeding program, rekindled our love of pleasure riding, and ultimately produced the colt who became our herd sire, Crown Cavalo Ritz Carlton. Her legacy is not simply part of our program—it helped create it.

Prim has been professionally trained under saddle by renowned horsewoman Kelly Thrasher, who also trained Horse Feathers Caspian. Intelligent, willing, and naturally athletic, Prim has the versatility to succeed in a wide variety of disciplines. She rides in English, Western, and dressage tack, accepts a snaffle bit, ground drives, and has been driven to a cart.

Her dependable education is matched by excellent manners. Prim loads, hauls, bathes, stands tied, and approaches new experiences with the willing disposition that has made her such a treasured partner.

As a broodmare, Prim has consistently passed her remarkable temperament to her offspring. Her foals inherit the affectionate, people-oriented nature, athleticism, and striking presence that make the Drum Horse such an extraordinary companion. She has proven herself capable of producing horses with the quality to become valued riding partners, show prospects, and future contributors to the breed.
