Owned and loved by Loretta and Charles Bradfield and their family, Toby is an IDHA-registered F2 Drum Horse stallion whose magnificent tobiano markings, commanding presence, and remarkable athletic ability have made him one of the most recognizable representatives of the breed. He is sired by Chew Mill Guinness and descends through the legendary Galway Warrior, a horse whose influence helped shape the development and recognition of the Drum Horse in America. Toby’s homozygous tobiano genetics add another valuable distinction to an already exceptional stallion.

Yet Toby is far more than a beautiful stallion with a prestigious pedigree. With an extraordinary 22 titles under his saddle and four End-of-Year Highpoint Awards, he has built a performance record that demonstrates exactly what the modern Drum Horse can be: powerful without being cumbersome, substantial yet athletic, and versatile enough to excel far beyond traditional draft-horse expectations.

Toby truly comes alive in the arena. He has a special love for barrel racing, Western competition, and trick riding, approaching his work with enthusiasm, courage, and unmistakable showmanship. Toby’s remarkable journey ultimately became the inspiration for the feature film Heartbeat of a Drum Horse, written and produced by Loretta Bradfield and based on the true story of Bradfield Farms and BH Spectacular. Filmed in the historic town of Holly, Michigan, and at Double JJ Resort and Ranch, the story follows a woman and her family as they pursue the dream of breeding Drum Horses while facing the challenges, sacrifices, humor, and unexpected obstacles of farm life. Toby is not merely featured in the film—he is its equine star and the heartbeat behind the story.

In 2026, Toby continued his role as an ambassador for the breed at the Midwest Horse Fair, where admirers could meet him in Celebrity Row and see him participate in the Grand March, clinics, and other appearances throughout the weekend. It was a fitting stage for a stallion whose career has united competition, entertainment, education, and the promotion of the Drum Horse.

Toby’s legacy also has special meaning here at Crown Cavalo. He is the sire of Bradfield’s Jade Warrior, an exceptional Drum Horse filly selected to become part of the Crown Cavalo breeding program. Through Jade, Toby’s distinguished pedigree, unforgettable presence, and influence will continue into a new generation of Crown Cavalo Drum Horses.
