Some stallions capture attention with their color. Others earn admiration through the horses they produce. 1TON’s Mighty Crixus offers both—combining an unforgettable golden tobiano coat with valuable genetics, traditional Drum Horse substance, and the affectionate temperament for which he is so well known.

Foaled in 2013, Crixus is an IDHA-registered F1 Drum Horse stallion by the celebrated Gypsy Vanner Love Biscuit and out of 1TON’s Hot Totti. His pedigree represents an ideal blend of 50% Gypsy, 25% Shire, and 25% Clydesdale, bringing together the abundant hair, color, and charisma of the Gypsy Vanner with the bone, strength, and powerful presence of two legendary draft breeds. His IDHA listing records him at 15.3 hands, while earlier information published by 1TON Ranch described him as standing 15.2 hands.

Through his sire, Crixus carries the influence of Love Biscuit, affectionately known as “Doc,” an imported Gypsy Vanner stallion with an unusually diverse color pedigree. Love Biscuit was documented as carrying tobiano, black, red, agouti, cream, and pearl genetics, making him a particularly valuable foundation for breeders seeking both traditional Gypsy type and exciting color possibilities.

Crixus inherited a remarkable genetic package of his own. His color results—Aa EE nCr nT nW20—confirm that he is a buckskin tobiano carrying one cream gene, one tobiano gene, and one copy of W20. His homozygous black status means that every foal receives a dominant black-pigment allele from him, while his agouti and cream genetics create opportunities for sought-after colors such as bay, buckskin, black, and smoky black, depending upon the genetics of the mare. His tobiano and W20 genes add further potential for bold, expressive white markings.
An Extraordinary Early Production Record

Crixus’s first publicly reported offspring established an exceptional color record. Each of his first five documented foals inherited his tobiano gene—a five-for-five record—and three of those five also inherited his cream gene. Although genetics never promise that a past streak will continue, that early production record remains an impressive demonstration of the color possibilities he can offer a thoughtfully planned breeding program.

Crixus is heterozygous for both cream and tobiano, meaning that he has a 50% genetic chance of passing each of those individual traits to any foal. His five-for-five tobiano record does not change the statistical probability for the next breeding, but it is nevertheless an extraordinary and memorable part of his history as a sire.
Producing Height Beyond His Own

Crixus also demonstrates why the stallion’s own height tells only part of the breeding story. Although he stands approximately 15.2 to 15.3 hands, 1TON Ranch has reported that he produces offspring expected to mature at 17 hands or taller when paired with larger mares. One such example is 1TON’s Simply Irresistible, a Crixus daughter out of the Shire mare Miracle on the Ohoopee, who was projected to mature at approximately 17 hands.

His ability to complement taller draft mares makes Crixus especially appealing to Drum Horse breeders seeking to preserve substantial bone and imposing size while adding Gypsy character, feather, striking color, and a more refined athletic presence.

Crixus holds a particularly meaningful place in the Crown Cavalo story as the sire of our own Crown Cavalo Ritz Carlton. Ritz matured to a certified 16 hands and inherited the cream and tobiano genetics that have become central to the Crown Cavalo breeding vision. Through Ritz, Crixus’s influence continues into a new generation of carefully bred Crown Cavalo Drum Horses.
